What is the year's maximum pensionable earnings?

The year's maximum pensionable earnings is an amount set by the federal government. Find out how it may affect your pension.

Each year, the federal government sets the year’s maximum pensionable earnings (YMPE). This is the maximum salary amount on which you need to contribute to the Canada Pension Plan.

For general public service employees, we use YMPE to calculate your pension benefits for service earned before April 1, 2018.

For certain ambulance paramedics in CUPE Local 873, we use YMPE to calculate your pension benefits for service earned before April 1, 2020.

For correctional employees, we use YMPE to calculate your pension benefits for all service.
