Pension application checklist

Use our pension application checklist to stay on track when applying for your pension.

Although there are many details to consider when applying for your pension, our online application makes the process streamlined and efficient. The following checklist can also help you stay on track.

Informing your employer

Contact your employer and BC's Public Service Pension Plan in writing to let us both know your last day of paid employment. We suggest you provide as much notice as possible to ensure a smooth application.

Ensuring your personal information is correct

Sign in to My Account to ensure that your personal information is correct and current. In particular, make sure that your personal email and phone number are listed, not your work contact information. If you have a former spouse with an entitlement to receive a portion of your pension, ensure you have uploaded a copy of your separation agreement or court order.

Applying to retire

No more than 90 days before your pension effective date:

□ Sign in to My Account to apply for your pension online

□ Apply for optional retirement health coverage, if you are interested

□ If you will be 60 or older when you retire, contact Service Canada to learn about the Canada Pension Plan retirement pension

□ If you will be 65 or older when you retire, contact Service Canada to learn about the old age security pension

You can begin your pension application 90 days before you’d like your pension to begin. Make sure you apply at least 30 days before your pension effective date (the date you’d like to retire).

Apply for your pension online in My Account. Or request a paper application package. Visit Applying for your pension, under Pension Basics for next steps.
