Paul was elected treasurer and chief financial officer of the British Columbia General Employees’ Union (BCGEU) in 2014, and re-elected in 2017. He is responsible for the BCGEU’s ethical investment program and policy on housing affordability and land economics. Before this, Paul served as the BCGEU’s executive vice-president for three years.

Paul is chair of the BCGEU’s BC Target Benefit Pension Plan, and he holds a depth of pension governance and experience. He also serves on the National Executive Board of the National Union of Public and General Employees and the Executive Council of the BC Federation of Labour.

Paul received his ICD.D designation through the Directors Education Program through the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management and Institute of Corporate Directors in 2019. During his career in the civil service, Paul worked primarily in real estate and information technology project management.
