April 1, 2022 changes apply to correctional employees in BCGEU component 1.

Refund of overcontributions

You will receive a refund of overcontributions on salary earned between August 1, 2018 and March 31, 2022. The changes to the contribution rate mean you will have contributed more than required during this timeframe. Your refund will be 0.35 per cent of your pensionable salary earned in that time. The refund will be taxed as a lump-sum payment in accordance with the Income Tax Act. A cheque will be mailed to you by the end of October 2022.

If you terminated your employment as a correctional employee during this time frame, you are still eligible to receive a refund on your salary earned as a correctional employee. We will make every reasonable attempt to contact terminated members, but if you believe you are entitled to a refund, please contact the plan.

Correctional employees who died during this time frame are also entitled to their applicable refund, and we will contact any surviving spouses or beneficiaries. If you are a surviving spouse or beneficiary and believe you are entitled to a refund, please contact the plan.
