Green Shield Canada (GSC) is committed to giving you all the information you need to manage your health coverage. Here are a few reminders to make your life simpler.
Direct Deposit, Online Claims Submission and a Personalized Dashboard
While it’s not mandatory, registering for Plan Member Online Services comes with some benefits:
- Sign up for direct deposit and get your money back from GSC faster
You only have to sign up once, and all claim payments will be deposited into your bank account
- Submit claims whenever you want, wherever you are

Let your providers do the work for you!
Your GSC plan has PayDirect access which allows your pharmacy to submit your drug claims to GSC at the point of service. This means convenience and time savings for you. Any out-of-pocket expenses are for any remaining amounts owing, such as your copay or deductible amounts owing.
Other providers, such as dental offices and providers of paramedical services (e.g., physiotherapy, massage therapy, and much more) may also simply submit claims online directly to GSC on your behalf. That means no paperwork for you.
The special authorization process in BC
As part of BC PharmaCare, PharmaCare Special Authority covers certain drugs that are not regular benefits of the PharmaCare program. A patient must be registered with BC PharmaCare and meet certain eligibility criteria before BC PharmaCare reviews an application for Special Authority coverage.
You may be asked to apply for Special Authority for certain drugs and submit the decision to GSC. Some pharmacies have the ability to submit Special Authority status directly to GSC on your behalf. Coordinating with the provincial program helps keep your drug plan sustainable.
If you recently joined the Public Service Pension Plan, please note that your claims history from your previous provider will not have transferred to GSC. As a result, GSC may request confirmation of a Special Authority status.
