Meet the Public Service Pension Board of Trustees
Appointed by: British Columbia Government and Service Employees’ Union
Committee(s): Communications, Benefits
Board Term: 2015–present
Harpinder Sandhu was appointed to the board in April 2015 by the British Columbia Government and Service Employees’ Union (BCGEU). His nomination came from the Public Service Pension Advisory Committee, which is comprised of members of unions other than the BCGEU.
Harpinder has worked as a property appraiser for BC Assessment for seven years. He is the North Lower Mainland regional director of Canadian Union of Public Employees Local 1767 (the union representing BC Assessment employees). His appraisal experience with redevelopment land, residential, commercial and strata properties provides good background and context for real estate as a pension fund investment.
Harpinder became involved in pension work through BCGEU. He has an interest in the importance of public awareness around the value of defined benefit plans. As part of his pension and governance education, he attended the first Annual Lancaster House Pensions Conference in December 2014.
Harpinder graduated from Simon Fraser University with bachelor of arts degrees in geography and economics, focused on international trade, finance, sustainable urban development and public policy.
